Health Benefits of Turkey Berry
Turkey Berry/Chundakkai is good for the eyes, diabetes, hypertension and kidney diseases. It is also effective for treating parasitic infection.
Turkey berry, Solanum torvum is beneficial vegetable support for cardiovascular diseases and strokes, Pains, redness and gout and Kidney disease.
Always crush sundakkai using mortar n pestle or ammikallu lightly before use to remove the bitterness. Then you can fry them or use directly in cooking.
Turkey berry/ patchai Sundaikaai- 1 cup
Small Onion- 1 cup
Tamarind extract – 1/2 cup
Grated fresh coconut-6 to 7 tbsp
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Fenugreek – 1 tbsp
Cumin – 1 tsp
Chilli Powder- 2 tbsp
Coriander Powder- 4 tbsp
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tbsp
Asofoetida – a pinch
Curry Leaves- 8 to 10
Salt to taste
Gingelly / Seasame Oil- 3 tbsp
You Can use Clay pot / iron pot for this preparation . Here i have Used iron pot for this preparation.
Heat the pot and pour gingelly/ seasame oil .
Add pinch of asofoetida powder in that .
Temper mustard seeds and curry leaves.
Put fenugreek and cumin and allow it to fry for few seconds.
Add one cup of crushed turkey berries and saute a while . (at least for 5-10 minutes on a low medium flame )
Now, Add roughly chopped small onions and garlic pods and again saute for a while.
Add chopped tomatoes and saute well
Add turmeric powder , chilli powder and coriander powder and pinch of salt & saute to allow the raw smell goes .
Add tamarind pulp in that masala .
Cook it covered for 5-8 minutes on low-medium flame. The oil will separate from curry.
Finally,grind the coconut and add the coconut paste, salt to taste and 1 cup water.
Add more water if needed and mix well everything. Cook it covered till you get thick gravy.
Serve with Rice 🙂
